The arena at Poway Polo Club.

The Billy Sheldon Arena Rules Polo Clinic will be 9 AM – 5 PM.  In the morning session you will take part in class room type instruction where the rules will be explained using white board diagrams, question and answer sessions, so that you can better understand the rules, play safer and have more fun playing. Billy will focus on basic rule concepts and terminologies, most common fouls and how to use the rules to your advantage.

The afternoon session will be coaching chukkers on horseback where explanation of fouls and straggles will be discussed in detail and afterwards there will be a short video review of the coaching chukkers where you will be able to see and further discuss common fouls that took place during the coaching chukkers.

Cost: $60 per player w/horse and ride in the chukkers, $100 if horse provided (limited supply).  $40 fee to participate in the classroom and observe – not ride in coaching chukkers. Lunch/drinks included.

Billy Sheldon, Arena “A” rated umpire, USPA Arena Handicap, 7 goals, is a second generation polo player who resides in Poway, California.  After many years of western riding, he began to play Arena Polo in 1990.  Quickly adapting to the face-paced style of play, he has won every major USPA National tournament, including: US Arena Open (four times), Arena Delegates Cup (once), Sherman Cup (four times), Amateur Cup (three times) and countless regional tournament.  He is a veteran of the fabled Los Angeles Pro Leagues, playing on many winning 20+ goal teams in various events.  He has represented the USA as a member of Team USA in the 1998 FIP World Championships and most recently was selected the USA MVP in the playing of the 2008 Townsend Cup challenge against the British and team Captain of the 2009 USPA Arena team playing in England for the Morrison Cup.  Along with playing, he coaches the Poway Interscholastic Arena Polo Team (Two time National Champions) and is an, winning National Umpire of the Year honors in 2003.
