Buchanan Family - Devon
Another amazing accomplishment for Dr. Cindy Buchanan winning the Family Class on Hunt Night at Devon this year. Her husband, Richard Buchanan, Cindy and two daughters Audrey and Maggie are pictured above. Cindy and her daughters showed side saddle and it was wonderful to watch. Congrats to the Buchanan family!

Bill Miller
Our Inter-Collegiate member spotlight goes to Bill Miller (pictured above).

Bill is 19 years old, graduated from Unionville High School in 2011 and now attends Skidmore College in upstate NY studying Bio/Pre-Med and playing polo.

Bill started his equestrian career showing hunter/jumpers for over 5 years and heard about Brandywine Polo Academy from a friend and started playing in 2007. He’s been hooked ever since. He played polo in all inter-scholastic tournaments and regionals in the area. At Skidmore he has won the All Star Inter-Collegiate at the Preliminary Regionals and Sportsmanship Award.

Way to go Bill!!

POLO 101:

The fast paced, rough and tumble horseback sport of polo is a game of finesse and strategy when high-goal players take the field. To help you better understand and enjoy the game, we will provide in our newsletters a few guides to the game and some of the terms used on and off the playing field.

The Field:

The polo field is 300 yards by 160 yards; goal posts are placed 24 feet apart at each end. The field is not typically marked except for the boundaries. If the field is “boarded,” 6-inch upright boards are used to mark the sides of the fields and to keep the ball in play. If the field is not boarded, the boundaries are marked with white lines.
