Is it or is it not? The question on the Western part of the US and Canada is whether change is happening at Eldorado. Is it or is it not? Well, I have been there a couple of times and yes, it has changed in many ways for the better. I’m not sure of the depth of the changes, but I can tell you what I can see. Visually there are some obvious improvements. The Cantina is clean, freshly painted with new toilets and a refurbished bar. These changes were needed and positive. The fields are much greener and look great North of 51. I don’t know how they will play, but we will know soon. The appearance of the Club still needs some work, but it is improving for sure. It just needs that TLC a little heavier.
Things are getting better in bad times. There are teams playing which is very positive. We have six teams in the 12-goal thanks to La Quinta Polo which is making the 12 goal work. They are sending two teams to compete with the teams at Eldorado. There are six teams in the 8-goal thus far, so thats good. The 4-goal is full with 8 teams. The stables, well are a ghost town right now, but maybe it’s just too early! I do think the season will be better, as is. It will be a big + as the economy is not for polo in any shape or form. Many people are staying home.
The big change is the Cantina thus far. The fields at Empire look fabulous as they added sand and new sprinklers. Maybe it will it bring those fields back to the condition they were back to the 80’s? Maybe . . . it looks like it.
The fields are however a bit cosmetic and confusing as the Bermuda is not dormat at all. The weather has been in the 90’s and the grass looks great, but is it rye or Bermuda? A lot of it is Bermuda, so the test will be when the first frost comes or hey, maybe with global warming its not coming. The Club is willing to work with people this season. Under the current global economic situation they know life is a challenge. Tthey must be up to it for the Eldorado Polo Club to continue to be the biggest club in North America. So come on down.
