Indio, CA (December 6, 2007) – With their 3 – 2 victory over Magellan, on a rather cool afternoon in the desert, Jackson Hole Horse Emporium remain as the only undefeated team in the 2007 Go – Honey Tournament.
The win wasn’t easy, as Magellan, trailing 3 – 0 at the half, scored twice in the third to put pressure on the leaders. A scoreless fourth, however, gave the tack salesmen the win and the lead in the tournament.
For the victors, Dylan Foster scored in the first with one each from George Gilstap and Manny Rodriguez in the second. Magellan, as mentioned, came close in the third as Benito Andrade got one and Lolo Payan added an open goal conversion.
In the second game of the day, World Gym needed overtime to deafeat Stormcat by a count of 7 – 6 to keep their final hopes alive. Giving up one at the start, the fitness guys led by one at the half and extended that lead to a pair after three. However, a huge fourth period effort by Craig Steinke, with three unanswered goals, brought the Canadians even at the end of regulation. Overtime was long, but Tony Uritz showed what fitness is all about and scored the winner with 1:23 left.
Uritz led his team’s scoring with three (one foul), Pepe Alcala had two, with Pierre Henri and Angel Romero contributing one each. Steinke’s three with two from Victor Soto and the award at the start accounted for Stormcat’s total.
Play on Saturday will feature Magellan vs. World Gym in a game that will see the winner advance to the final against Jackson Hole.
