Letter from Alex Jacoy, General Manager of Eldorado Polo Club
Dear Polo Player:
The purpose of this letter is to update you on the summertime projects and next winter’s playing schedule at Eldorado.
I would like to thank those of you who filled out and returned the questionnaires that we mailed to you. Your comments were very helpful in the decision-making process for the future of Eldroado Polo Club.
At the present time, Eldorado is NOT listed on the Multiple Exchange and is NOTE listed with any real estate company. It is safe to assume that Eldorado will remain a polo club for at least the next two to three years. As far as the questionnaires were concerned, we found that the biggest issues were the fields, food service and club parties.
Our new head groundsman, Andrew Perkins, has devised a master plan for the summer: all fields will be watered, fertilized and aerated; more sprinklers will be rented in order to maximize water coverage; and we also invested in a top dressing machine that sands the fields. In additional, we will over-seed all the fields including 5 & 6.
The Cantina will also be updated. There will be a new caterer in the Cantina for next Season: Christy of Christy’s Café in La Quinta. She brings with her a great reputation for superior food and excellent service. The Cantina is a meeting place for the polo community, so it will be renovated and freshened up.
There were inconclusive responses to the hors d’ oeuvres parties and league dinners, except for the Governor’s Cup Western Gala and Groom’s Race, which was a great party. League dinners will start with the Opening Night Dinner on January 5th, 2008 and one thereafter, in February. Both dinners will be theme parties.
For our winter season, the emphasis will be on controlling field use: each player will be participating in a maximum of three games per week, meaning one practice and two league games. All stick-and-ball will be delegated tot he Empire field located at the corner of Ave. 52 and Madison.
Eldorado will open one month later, on Wed. December 12, ’07 for practice games. Moving back the opening date, and having additional sprinkler pipes in place will give the fields 60 days to germinate.
The Club House will also have a new caterer (TBA), along with upgrades. We are still formalizing some great ideas for the Club House and will update you as soon as we make these decisions.
On a personal note, it is no secret that I am retiring next year in June 2008. I would like to thank everyone for their continued support over the past 30 years. Eldorado is still the best place to play polo! We are looking for a replacement, and if you or someone you know has any suggestions, please e-mail me at alexjacoy@hotmail.com
Sincerely,
Alex Jacoy
