4-Goal Lions Cup Finals

Empire Polo Team defeated Coldwell Banker 9-7 to take home the silver and $10,500.

Empire Polo Team took an early lead with four unanswered goals scored in the first chukker. Charlie Petersen scored two goals and Caroline Anier and Gina Padilla matched him with a goal each. The power shifted in the second chukker as Coldwell Banker held Empire back with a strong defense. Empire was unable to score any goals in the chukker. Coldwell Banker scored two goals to narrow the margin. Empire regained their focus and Petersen added another pair of goals and Padilla one. Lyn Cobb and Santos Ariolla each scored a goal to trail by three heading into the fourth chukker.

Coldwell Banker fought hard and gained some ground with two goals by Cameron Smith and Topo Mendez. Anier post one point to keep Empire ahead by two. In a fierce battle during the final chukker both teams were able to score a goal each, but Empire came out ahead 9-7.

Empire Polo Team took home the first place cash prize in the amount of $10,500. Coldwell Banker won second place and $3,500.

Charlie Petersen won MVP. Gina Padilla’s horse won Best Playing Pony for the tournament.
