ESTRELLA NABS CHAMBER CUP OPENER IN OT
The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Cup Tournament got off to a thrilling start on Friday at Saratoga Polo as Estrella edged out Bloomfield with a 13-12 sudden death overtime victory.
Ezequiel “Queco” Dupont provided almost all of Estrella’s offensive production. Dupont put two points on the board every chukker in the first half to give Estrella a narrow 6-5 lead at half time.
Bloomfield was similarly anchored by Omar Sosa, who finished with 8 goals spread out over five chukkers.
The only difference was that Bloomfield found an answer for Dupont defensively in the second half, shutting Queco out in the fourth and fifth while slowly building a small lead.
Ricardo Armstrong had a score in the fourth and Ricky Bostwick had one in the fifth to keep Estrella in the fight until Dupont came alive again in the sixth and final chukker of regulation. Queco scored 4 in the sixth to give Estrella the lead with little time left, but Sosa responded on a penalty late in the sixth to send the contest into sudden death.
Dupont was finally able to shut the door in OT, getting his 11th and final goal of the game off of a penalty shot.
The husband and wife team of Tab and Will Orthwein combined for 3 markers and Rick Baum also had a tally for the runners up.
