Defending Champion New Bridge La Dolfina Opens With 12-8 Win
In 22-Goal Ylvisaker Cup at International Polo Club Palm Beach

WELLINGTON, FL (February 1, 2007) – Ten-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso scored five goals to lead defending champion New Bridge La Dolfina over Pony Express 12-8 in their opening match of the 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup presented by Cartier Thursday at International Polo Club Palm Beach. It was New Bridge La Dolfina’s 16th consecutive victory over the last two seasons at International Polo Club.

In other games, Paco de Narvaez scored 10 goals to lead San Saba to an 12-11 victory over Patagones and Audi raced past Broncos 17-10 as Gonzalito Pieres and Brandon Phillips scored six goals apiece.

It was the third time this season at New Bridge La Dolfina has beaten Pony Express, including 15-9 in the final of the Joe Barry Memorial Cup on Sunday.

Martin Valent added three goals for the winners while patron Russ McCall and Matias Magrini scored two goals each.

Tomas Goti led Pony Express (0-1) with three goals while Nicolas Roldan and Gonzalo von Wernich scored two goals apiece. Patron Bob Daniels did not score.

Patagones trailed by one goal three times in the second half, the last time at 12-11 with 2:15 left on Guille Aguero’s 15-yard penalty shot. But Patagones could not get a shot on goal in the remaining time.

Nine-goaler Javier Novillo Astrada added two goals for San Saba (1-0) while patron Dawn Jones and Luis Echezarreta did not score.

Aguero led Patagones (0-1) with four goals while Juan Martin Obregon, who replaced patron Gonzalo Avendano, added three goals, Michel Dorignac scored two goals and Carlos Avendano had one goal.

Audi jumped out to a 4-0 lead five minutes into the first chukker and increased the margin to 10-4 at halftime as it foiled the Broncos debut at International Polo Club. Audi (1-0) led by as many as 10 goals.

Audi patron Marc Ganzi scored three goals and Sugar Erskine, replacing an injured Juan Bollini, had two goals for the winners. Lucas Monteverde and Silvestre Donovan scored three goals each for the Broncos (0-1) while patron Lord Milford-Haven and Naco Taverna added two goals apiece.
The tournament continues Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. when BTA (0-0) plays Bendabout (0-1) followed by Black Watch (0-0) against Skeeterville (0-1) at 3 p.m. The final of the Ylvisaker Cup presented by Cartier is scheduled for Sunday, February 18 at 3 p.m. on Stanford Field.
The Ylvisaker Cup in named in honor of William T. “Bill” Ylvisaker, a polo pioneer who founded Palm Beach Polo and Country Club in the late 1970s, bringing the sport to the forefront in Palm Beach County. A former Chairman of the USPA, Ylvisaker was elected into the Polo Hall of Fame in 1996. Ylvisaker has won numerous major polo tournaments, including the prestigious U.S. Open in 1972.
The polo matches are open to the public. General admission for the Sunday games at International Polo Club Palm Beach is $10 for adults. Children under 12 enter for free. Tickets may be purchased at the gate on the day of the game or in advance at the stadium box office.
