OC Polo Club – Tournament News:
The Orange County Polo Club sent four teams to LA last month to participate in the Pacific Coast Polo League’s first game of the 2011 season. OC Polo players competed in several different levels. New players, Al Vom Steeg, Daniel Lak, Paul Morisseau and 9 year old Amanda Brumby played in the student level bracket. Amanda Brumby kicked off the first chukkar in style while Vom Steeg and Morisseau made their first tournament goals. All four of the new players put in a stellar performance however, California Polo Club’s team edged out the victory. Flight two featured OC Polo’s 2nd team, Brumby Farms, Natalie Brumby, husband Chris Brumby and Dave Schuberth. This tough team played hard against a more seasoned team from Poway, however, Poway took the win. Natalie Brumby exemplefied grace under pressure and was awarded the “Best Sportsmanship” title. OC Polo’s third team, Apex, with Forest Smith, Jennifer Alexy and Heather Perkins played a great game against CA Polo. The game was tied into the final moments, but, the ball rolled better for CA Polo and Apex was just shy of a win. However the team made quite an impression as Forest Smith won “Best Sportsmanship” as well as “Best Playing Pony” for his horse Indy. OC Polo’s fourth team, “French Toast Mafia” – Jake Brumby, Romain Brumby, Kelli Newton and Eric Munk defeated the opposition in a fast paced match, with a score of 12 to 9. Their great teamwork and agressive riding is what put them over the top. Romain took Most Valuable Player honors with his great ball control.
