Celebrating Valentine`s weekend was a perfect entrée to have the Annual Giuliana Cup here at the Costa Careyes Polo Club on the Pacific Ocean side of Mexico. Players from Portland, Oregon – Megan Rioux and MacKenzie Martin – Rancho Mirage, California – Debra Vermoch, Calgary, Alberta – Julie Roenisch – Catriona Brown – Puerto Morelos – and from Austria – Maxime Moelhaussen – came to celebrate the Guiliana Cup. Added were two men players – Giorgio Brignone- owner of the club and Alberico Ardissone, son of the now famous Agua Alta tournament here at the club. Three of the lady players had never been to Careyes which made the tournament even more special. The enjoyed the beach, paddleboarding, riding on Playa Teopa, snorkeling and just relax in the low key atmosphere of Careyes
Play was over 2 days with the score being carried over. The Careyes team was captained by Brignone with Rioux, Martin and Vermoch. . The Casa Caribe team led by Julie Roenisch with Ardissone, Moellhausen and Brown. The play was even until the last chukker when Ardissone made 2 quick goals ended the day 6 to 4 in favor of Casa Caribe. Played resumed the next day with Martin scoring aquick goal making it 6to 5 but after that Roenisch took command of the Casa Caribe team ending the scoring with a coule of goals by Roenisch and Moellhausen. The game ended in a 9-5 victory for CasaCaribe. Maime Moellhausen was named MVP for the Giuliana Cup.
