HISTORY MADE AS ENGLAND MAKE IT A HAT TRICK AT THE AUDI INTERNATIONAL

History was made today (Sunday 28 July 2013) when HRH the Prince of Wales presented the Westchester Cup to the England polo team at the Audi International at Guards Polo Club, Windsor Great Park.

This is the first time in 111 years that England has achieved a hat trick for the Westchester Cup since winning in 1886, 1900 and 1902.  The home team put on an outstanding performance to beat the Americans today 12 goals to 11 inwhat was one of the closest, one of the most exciting International games that the UK has ever seen.

The Winning Team - Audi England with HRH The Prince of Wales

Audi welcomed the American team with over thousands of spectators and VIPs including Naomie Harris, Eddie Redmayne and Alice Eve to the spectacular setting of Guards Polo Club, which proved to be the perfect location for the Audi International – the biggest polo event of the season.

The England side featured the ever-reliable Captain, Luke Tomlinson, his brother Mark, and James Beim. The fourth and final player was New Zealander John Paul Clarkin, a factor that may have confused a few people in the crowd; The Westchester Cup rules dictate that England may play with one Commonwealth player, and who better to choose that New Zealand’s highest handicapped individual?

The American opposition included nine goaler Polito Pieres, eight goalers Mike Azzaro and the popular Nic Roldan, and one goaler, Marc Ganzi.
