JUST AN OPINION I LOVE TO GIVE THEM. I drove roundtrip from Santa Barbara to Indio last week and I was thinking about some of the political ads I have seen in San Diego and Santa Barbara about adding lanes to the freeways. Well I have a cheaper solution. Fine anyone driving in the passing lane who is not passing. It would encourage people drive on the right.
The second idea I had it this. Imagine 4 lanes go from left to right. In the passing lane someone is driving just the limit or less. In the 2nd lane the traffic is about the same, but a little faster. In the third lane you have a good driver staying out of the truck lane, but not above limit. In lane four you have an 18-wheeler. The only open space is going to be lane 2 as soon as he clears lanes 1 and 3. So where is everyone trying to go? Are they going to that hole in lane 2 that’s coming? Here lies the problem. There is approx. 2 to 400 yards open ahead of this traffic and there is probably a policeman in the mix. A way to save money is to fix traffic and make a lot of money for the state. We should fine all people impeding traffic by driving in the fast lane. It could generate a lot of money in fines if we made it a law. Pass on the left only. Try it for 30 days and see how much less hassle it is and how much less gas you burn. You will also see how much faster people get where they want to go. We can also pay the Police more to do their job. It is absurd to see a Police car have to go around a moron in the left lane even where it says slower traffic move to the right. We do not need to spend billions building roads and take up space to build more roads. We need to educate the public. If we are going to spend the big bucks lets create a mass transit system. If other countries can do it why can’t we? Spend the money we give politicians for the mass transit, this is where the money will help.
Here is another one I heard. It was a question I thought was really dumb. It was about the war in Iraq. Someone asked why are we not having riots like during Vietnam? I said there is no draft and if there was it would be worse than then. Our military is all volunteer and most come from lower income areas, not all, but most. The military recruits are probably not being very well trained either. Just give them a gun and send them abroad and have Halliburton protect them.
I grew up during the draft and I know it would be different if there was one today. We would either either be out or doing what we were meant to do. The Armed forces are just a lot better than they were after 20 years of peace in the early 70’s and late 60’s. It was a loose way of life. Do your part save, lives, gas, time and enjoy your drive by passing on the left and driving on the right and you may get to polo on time!
