Pink Panthers by Villacampos wins gold at the International Ladies
Tournament “III LADIES FIRST POLO CUP”, the first ladies tournament in the
European grass polo season

On April 22, 23 & 24 the third edition of the annually organized
international ladies polo tournament “LADIES FIRST POLO CUP” has taken place
at the Club de Polo Ampurdan, being this one the first ladies polo
tournament of the European grass-polo season.
This tournament, being organized since 2004 under different names, has
brought together many players with different nationalities: Germany,
Holland, UK, Italy, Austria, South Africa, Mexico.

This year three teams have participated, playing during three days in system
of “round robin” (games of two chukkers every day), getting 2 points score
per won game and 1 point score for a draw in a game. The handicap was open.
The games on Friday and Saturday ended up in a draw of 4 points between all
the three teams: PINK PANTHERS by Villacampos, ORANGE WARRIORS by Mas Bosch
1526 and GREEN ELFS by Club de Polo Ampurdan, which indicates that the teams
were very even.

The games on Sunday, with a lot of tension and intensity in the games, and a
strong wind that made the play difficult, were very important for the final
classification. The PINK PANTHERS by Villacampos ended up in a draw against
GREEN ELFS by Club de Polo Ampurdan, and won against ORANGE WARRIORS by Mas
Bosch 1526. After that ORANGE WARRIORS by Mas Bosch 1526 won against GREEN
ELFS by CP Ampurdan. This is the end classification:

1. PINK PANTHERS by Villacampos: Julia Hiebeler, Linda Boughey, Natalia
Corrales Diez, Steffi von Pock
2. ORANGE WARRIORS by Mas Bosch 1526: Rachael Hughes, Emmanuelle Morandi,
Gabriela Benoit, Ginevra Visconti
3. GREEN ELFS by Club de Polo Ampurdan: Caroline Morandi, Lea Rodt Levy, Eva
Campos, Raquel Alcalá Fuentes

There was a draw for three players at the top scorers’ ranking! The same
number of goals was scored by the Dutch player Julia Hiebeler, the German
Steffi von Pock and the Mexican Gabriela Benoit. The “Most Valuable Player”
Award was for Julia Hiebeler.

On Saturday 23rd April the players could enjoy an Argentine Asado at the
club, and celebrate Sant Jordi (St. George’s Day, a big celebration in
Catalonia and International Book Day), where traditionally the man offers a
red rose to his lady and the lady a book to his man. A group of typical
Spanish musicians – “LA TUNA” – came by to entertain and bring flowers to
the ladies.

After this tournament polo goes on at Ampurdan all summer long!
In Autumn the highlight will be the “VIII Tournament CP Ampurdan, Memorial
Wolfgang Reber” (hcp 6 goals) on October 7 to 16, and the “II LADIES &
GENTLEMEN AUTUMN CUP” on 21 to 23 October. For debutants’ polo the last
tournament of the grass-polo season is the “XXXV DARIO CAMPOS’ DEBUTANTS
TOURNAMENT” on 28 to 30 October 2016.
