When you can see (through the dust) its Governor’s Cup time. This 6-Goal Tournament used to be the U.S. Open of low goal polo with a showing of 35 or 40 teams. This is not the case anymore. Its good to have 15 teams which the tournament has not had for the last 3 years. To me it’s the schedule. If it’s to be the biggest deal in town make it the only deal in town, but no we have 2-goal, 3-goal and probably 4-goal and then the Governor’s Cup (6-goal). So with a menu like that, only the people who think they have a chance get in it and that’s few as it shows. However, there are some good team’s. Friendly Chevy has Lance and Curt Hughes. They were a step better than Zippy’s deepwater squad and rolled to the first + of the tournament. Today it got into full swing with no surprises, but the favorites were pushed as they should be in this one. Casa Blanca returned to the winner’s circle again this week after losing last week’s 8-Goal final by beating Rick Gray’s High Prairie team. Then it was Barrbosa taking no prisoners as they took on Jeff Graham helping them to a big win. Following that it was Bill Garlock easily becoming a super Int’l. Patron who has won polo around the globe with his team Parklane. They are still in it as they got a bye. In game 3 it was the Pretty Lady Robin Paicious and her Cougars of OC stopping a hard-working seniors team from Fish Creek. In a real thriller it was the Hawks hanging on and surviving against Polo Financial in a “lucky for Hawks” game where Clemente Zavaleta was off on the #4’s against them. Then it was the OC Crusaders saying their prayers as they beat Kentfield by the skin of their chinny, chins.
So it makes for a busy Easter as Casa Blanca and Barrbosa get it on early. Parklane and Wild Bill take on the OC Cougars and their Gorgeous #1, who did not have a good day today, but survived. Then it’s the Hawks with Mini Mac (Julian Mannix) taking on the Paicious-squad (with Rick Paicious) which should be a good game. The Wolfman (Ashton Wolf) and Theo try to follow their leader through the fighting Hawks at under 20 by 3.
Next we head to the Skins semis. At high noon it’s the Governor and his running and Gunning machines Windsor Cap. against Bullet Bob Jornayvaz of Valiente and the Mountain Men. Then it’s Father Joe Henderson and the Mini Mac (Julian Mannix) having a gunfight with the Double Dan’s of Palm Desert. So wherever you are from there is someone to cheer for from the Canadian Rockies to the Desert air. It maybe dusty, but those ponies will be running.
Out Southeat at La Quinta Polo Club where you can see the action (no dust there) there were some close games. They are taking the Bunny day off as they played Friday and Sat. this week.
Down south in Florida Mother Nature may be the winner as the Gold Cup Finals was not looking good last night, but they are hoping for wind and sun to finish it. Only time will tell. Have a very HAPPY EASTER.
Other news Michael and Jasmine Rothbard became Mommy and Daddy of a young heir Sat. morning. Some other news Pretty Katherine Freeman is soon to be a Polo Mom. It was Uncle Sean Keys getting a big hip yesterday on a very ugly emergency dismount, so he is not jogging to breakfast this morning.
Also rumor is Eldorado PC is looking into a new invention called a Water Truck. It may be seen today, we can only hope!
See ya at Polo and do have a Happy Easter!
