Today was a day that Polo people will seldom forget in today’s World of Polo which has become a very different sport but today showed it can happen and some leaders seen it long ago. As silly as it may have seen back in the 90’s before Falkland and I think spelled wrong some great Englishmen seen this happening so they made it simple for there young people . David Jamieson told me decades ago we need to preserve this sport and if we do not it will disappear and he was so right and it is not gone in the USA but headed South @ 90 miles an hour . We will have Polo maybe forever but it will not be a Association as it sort of is today , It will be farm Polo defined by the owner of the club which may or may not be to the liking to all involved but that is the way it will be and is often but it still is a game people want to play and do . People play polo because it is fun and competitive and one of the only sports the owner sponsor patron can participate in and be an actual player. Well until about 20 years ago that was true. Wealthy men played it at all levels and were not just Patrons but Players like the Busche’s the Orthweins, Uihliens, Gose’s, Oxleys, Beveridges, Walkers, Beals, Armstrongs,Peter Brant and so many more they were players from 2 to 7 goals and they were Players not just Payers well the English TODAY showed it can still be that way with a huge statement today . Jared Zimi showed earlier this year Patrons can still be part of the game but this is full on what can be the changing of the Game. If we build out youth there is a reason for them to play. They did this in England and guess what they became players because in the UK it was decided all teams would have a minimum of TWO Englishmen per team with Sponsor being allowed to be a Eng. but at least they made it happen. SO WHAT HAPPENED the young talented kids were whisked off to South America where they can play Polo all year and became real Polo Players because it was there life for the moment. I am sure all the young Englishmen were part of that program for years and that is why they did what was done today in easily the best and toughest tournament in the World of Polo today. We meaning us Americans could learn from this even though Jack Oxley promoted this 30 years ago and seen this was going to happen IT DID. We now have ONE Patron 5 goals or more .WHY the USPA our own leadership . It is not just our leaders we are also the blame we never stopped it and now maybe we cannot but I think we can. TODAY IN THE FINALS at Santa Barbara Skeene Cup was a perfect example what can happen A semi Major Patron brought in a young 2 goal Pro from Argentina who there is rated 5 or 6 goals but here is rated 2 and well why would you take a 2 goal American when you could have a 5 goal player from somewhere else because that is the USPA bending to keep someone happy all the time. WHY? We have ten fold more people on the payroll of the USPA producing very little and slowly melting away the American Polo players to the point we are NOT NEEDED!
about Polo today The day was one big one a lot of finals and some big upsets as well .
Start in the UK THE BIGGEST OF THEM ALL.
El Remanso beat La Bamba de Areco in the last seconds in a game they often dominate but it is not over until it is over an all English squad came flying back and put the stop on two of the best players from Argentina Plus a young South African who is going nowhere but up in a marvelous victory of the British Open also known as the GOLD CUP this is not only the biggest tournament in the World but maybe easily the most competitive tournament World Wide. WELL DONE EL REMANSO :JAMES BEIM, JAMES HARPER ,O;;IE CUDMORE AND CHARLES HANBURY
In Aspen it was La Kirina and Brian Boyd stopping Piocho nr there big one and in Santa Barbara at the finals of the : Skeene Cup it was
Lucchese and Restoration Hardware doing the big one of the day and Ben Solemoni Patron of RH was on site after losing the semis in the UK Gold Cup playing with a makeup team which may be better than his to be seen Pipi Vercilano has been amazing getting RH here to the finals but Lucchese seemed to completely dominate them Horse wise on the field it was very close much of the early game Luc. up early and the behind until the fifth tied the game in early fifth and going up but RH did stop them and tied it up in the sixth but RH came back and got to a goal deficit and had there chances to tie in the sixth but came no closer and it all goes to Lucchese in the finals WINNERS of the SKEENE CUP.
Here is a perfect example of lack of control by USPA , we may have many more personal but even less control a young player at 2 goals playing for Lucchese was Uloa and he is rated at 2 goals here in the US by the USPA .WELL it is no wonder no American gets this chance not only is he very talented he is also rated 5 goals in Argentina may have been raised to 6 recently I do not think he is that close to six bet he is closer to six than two and riding 10 goal horses . This is why 1 out of 50 young Americans get a job . You do not get experience even if you are good and you cannot buy horses if you get no job so they leave that is why we have one player in the last few years go over 5 goals Jared Zimi and he is a Patron as well as a hugely talented Player but he got a chance . That is why Women out pace young American Men in our ass. so much where is a GUY GOING TO GO!! HOMEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
