About 8 hours before the Vic Graber finals in Santa Barbara, CA,  it was Apes Hill and the Tomlinson Brothers plus one Argy named Juan Gris  Zavaleta who conquered the Queens Cup.  This is the biggest tournament by far on the planet today, but it was Big Charley who finished the day scoring the winning goal in overtime to become the 2009 Champs of the Queen’s Cup.  Hats off to Claire and her band of English Gents.  They are now Champions.  It maybe a new thing in the world as the MVP was also a Gringo from South Africa named DuPessis, so maybe the World is changing .

Over on this side of the pond no results from Aiken or Houston yet,  but in Santa Barbara it was the Governor (Pat Nesbitt) over ruling the Lawman (Matt Ladin) as Windsor Capital out did the Piocho Ranch Cowboys in a very good, but delayed game.   Whistles were in control often. I was told the other day by a VIP that the referees were good and then 40 minutes later they were confused as to who they blew the foul on.  They said play on an open goal and when it was missed with 3 opposing players on the field they said no, it was the other way.  They said play, so maybe I am not confused, but there is a situation. I know we have a budget constraint for umpires as things are tough financially, but you either can umpire or you cannot and it must be addressed as we do have a big situation coming soon if it is not resolved.  A video would have showed some very silly fouls called today and the problem is in the end, both teams are upset not just one who lost. Luckily the pro, not the official umpire, caught a couple and helped over rule a bad call. In the end it was Windsor Capital stopping Piocho Ranch in the finals of the Vic Graber Memorial  in a game that was tied at 1/2 time.  A fast and wide-open 4th chukkar openend the door for Windsor Cap. as they slid out in front to stay. The Governor was as hot early and as cold in the second 1/2 as he blew it through early and out in the last 3.  The notice was that I AM BACK and that s the way it is on Flag Day in the USA.

I have one other complaint for the day besides umpires. I think anyone employed by an American company should have to remove their hat or head cover during the National Anthem or be fired.  These people  take US dollars, but they have no respect for the American flag that they are working for! Just a thought!

Congratulations are due to the Champs of  the 2009 Queen’s Cup and Vic Graber Memorial.
