AIKEN POLO CLUB – 2007 will be a milestone for Aiken Polo Club, and indeed the City of Aiken, as we plan a year long celebration of the sport of polo, and its contribution to the development and prosperity of Aiken. As it was so eloquently said March 23 1882, in the Charleston News and Courier;

“Aiken is in her glory. The season is at its height…But the great event of the season has been the brilliant and successful introduction of James Gordon Bennett’s popular and national game, Polo. It has caused a great sensation, and completely revolutionized the city.”

Aiken celebrated the 50th anniversary of polo in 1932 complete with parades, parties and exciting polo. 1957, a celebratory game was held on Whitney field marking 75 years of polo. Again in 1982 Aiken enjoyed the 100th anniversary with the playing of the Cup of Aiken, gala, and polo pony parade through downtown Aiken. Our plans for the 125th year will be no less spectacular as we highlight equestrian sport, and the “Game of Kings”
