Gracida International Changes Team Name to Privilege/Gracida International
for the 22-goal season at International Polo Club Palm Beach
WELLINGTON, FL (January 16, 2007) – Gracida International has officially changed its name to Privilege/Gracida International, it was announced Tuesday.
Privilege, a newly-formed hybrid company offering international strategic opportunities to a pre-qualified roster of clients, is the brainchild of international financier Scott Levinsohn and Palm Beach-raised John Temerian, the youngest successful entrepreneur in the auto industry.
This is one of the few high-goal polo teams that has corporate sponsorship; Marc Ganzi’s Audi is another.
Privilege/Gracida International will also play in the 22-goal Ylvisaker Cup, presented by Cartier, beginning on Feb. 1. The final is Sunday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m. on Stanford Field at International Polo Club.
Privilege/Gracida International is led by 9-goaler Carlos Gracida, who has won the prestigious U.S. Open nine times. He is joined by his 16-year-old son, Carlitos, Carlos’ nephew, Julio Gracida, and their cousin, Roberto Gonzales. Privilege/Gracida International dropped its first game in the 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial Cup, 12-11, to Skeeterville.
Privilege/Gracida International returns to action Thursday at 3 p.m. against Pony Express at International Polo Club.
The Joe Barry Memorial Cup is named after American polo legend Joe Barry, who died on May 18, 2002 at the age of 58. Born and raised in Texas, he achieved a 9-goal rating and dominated polo in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. Barry won six U.S. Open championships, three Gold Cups, three Silver Cups as well as the Coronation and Camacho Cup trophies. One of the greatest No. 4s in polo history, Joe Barry was elected to the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999.
The polo matches are open to the public. General admission for the Sunday games at International Polo Club Palm Beach is $10 for adults. Children under 12 enter for free. Tickets may be purchased in advance and they are also available at the gate on the day of the game.
