Annual Kids Day A Huge Success as Fourth-Graders Treat Polo Players
Like Rock Stars on Friday at International Polo Club
WELLINGTON, FL (January 19, 2007) – More than 1,000 enthusiastic fourth-graders from Wellington schools attended an exhibition polo match featuring several of the sport’s top players at the third annual Kids Day Friday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.
“Welcome to our house,” said IPC General Manager Michael C. Brown as the students roared in response, “Polo Rocks!”
Brown then thanked the teachers and principals and invited everyone to come back and attend a match every Sunday at 3 p.m. Schools represented were New Horizons, Elbridge Gale, Binks Forest, Equestrian Trails, Wellington Elementary and Panther Run.
After a brief explanation of the game by IPC Polo Manager Jimmy Newman, everyone was treated to a two-chukker exhibition match. Isla Carroll, sparked by two goals Nicolas Roldan and one by 12-year-old Michael Armour, defeated The Tackeria 4-2. Nacho Figueras, who scored one goal, and Patrick Laulhe made up the rest of Isla Carroll. Twelve-year-old Matthew Coppola and Todd Offen scored for The Tackeria, who were joined by Jeff Hall and Jeff Blake.
At halftime, the students rushed onto the field for the “Gatorade Divot Stomp”, which replaced the traditional Roederer Estate Champagne Divot Stomp.
The professional players and Brown visited six elementary schools to promote Kids Day, turning them into celebrities in the eyes of the students. That was evident after the match as the students swarmed them for autographs. Players signed polo balls, pieces of paper, backpacks, t-shirts and even their shoes.
Each child received a gift bag with items donated by International Polo Club, Panera Bread, Sterling Bank, Fidelity Federal, Wellington Golf & Country Club, The Tackeria and The Mall at Wellington Green.
This event is an important marketing tool for the club and helps kick off the fourth season of world-class high-goal polo at International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, which concludes with the prestigious Stanford U.S. Open Championship final on Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m.
