WELLINGTON, FL (January 20, 2007) – New Bridge La Dolfina jumped out to a 4-0 lead and coasted past Skeeterville 13-9 in a 22-goal Joe Barry Memorial Cup polo match Saturday at International Polo Club Palm Beach.

It was New Bridge La Dolfina’s 14th consecutive victory over the last two seasons at International Polo Club.

The triumph moved New Bridge La Dolfina into sole possession of first place in Division I with a 2-0 record. Skeeterville is tied for second with Pony Express at 1-1.
Ten-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso scored five goals, all in the first half, as New Bridge La Dolfina took an 8-3 lead after the first three chukkers. Skeeterville could not get closer than four goals the rest of the game.

Nine-goaler Matias Magrini also scored five goals for the winners, three in the first half, as New Bridge La Dolfina continued its early-season domination. They have outscored opponents 29-18 in two games. Martin Valent added two goals and patron Russ McCall scored one goal for the winners.

Eight-goaler Julio Arellano led Skeeterville with six goals, five on penalty conversions. Owen Rinehart added two goals and patron Skeeter Johnston scored one goal. Stevie Orthwein did not score.

Joe Barry Memorial Cup action continues Sunday at 3 p.m. when Audi (1-0), led by 9-goaler Gonzalito Pieres, plays Patagones (1-0), led by 7-goaler Michel Dorignac. The winner of the game will finish in first place in Division II.

The Joe Barry Memorial Cup is named after American polo legend Joe Barry, who died on May 18, 2002 at the age of 58. Born and raised in Texas, he achieved a 9-goal rating and dominated polo in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. Barry won six U.S. Open championships, three Gold Cups, three Silver Cups as well as the Coronation and Camacho Cup trophies. One of the greatest No. 4s in polo history, Joe Barry was elected to the Polo Hall of Fame in 1999.

The polo matches are open to the public. General admission for the Sunday games at International Polo Club Palm Beach is $10 for adults. Children under 12 enter for free. Tickets may be purchased in advance and they are also available at the gate on the day of the game.
