The America’s Cup (8 to 10 goal) Sunday Polo match at San Diego Polo Club was a come from behind win by JayBird/Ohana over TriTech/Hanalei Bay ending 11 to 8. Scoring all their goals in the second half of the game JayBird/Ohana seized an opportunity when TriTech’s Chris Maloney substituted out with an injury.
What looked to be a TriTech shoe-in with five unanswered goals scored in the first half, changed completely by games end. Brilliant plays and midair lobs by Matias Obregon (4), great teamwork by Danny Juarez (4), Kelly Maloney (0), and Jay Thornton (0), made for a dynamic second half for the win.
In the earlier match of the day, Princeps Alisha Wray was the first to score towards their win 8 to 5 over San Fernando’s Roberto Estudillo, Rob Yackley, Harrison and Daniel Samaniego.
Princeps Kimo Huddleston was high scorer with four goals, Ellen Greenhill had one in the first chukker, and Scott Dlugos had one in the third.
Between matches, celebrity horse Sigaf, star in the movie “Troy” as Orlando Blooms mount, performed. Owned by Horse of the Sun’s Stephanie Parisi, Sigaf exhibited a tribute to the American Cowboy ridden Western by his Natural Horsemanship trainer Len Judd.
