Calgary, Alberta (July 20, 2007) – In the Christopher Roenisch Memorial 12 Goal Tournament at the Calgary Polo Club, Millarville and Broward Yachts continued their winning ways Friday afternoon.
In the first game, played at the very expansive Chinook Downs layout, Millarville defeated Tusk Energy by a count of 15 – 12.
Giving up one at the start, Julian Mannix got it back early in the first and the Mannix boys were on their way to a four goal lead at the half, 10 – 6. With almost everyone conceding an easy victory for Fred H. Mannix and Co., John Rooney and his Oilers came back in the fourth to trail by three and tied the count at 11 late in the fifth. However, the comeback effort was derailed with 35 seconds left in the period as a penalty five from the spot, near center, gave the the older brother a chance to tie. He made no mistakes and ran through everyone to notch the breaker and get a lead of one going into the final of regulation. By outscoring Tusk by three in the sixth, Millarville nailed the win. Fred H.Mannix scored eight times and Daniel Roenisch notched six as his strong supporting effort continued. As mentioned earlier, Julian Mannix had one.
For Tusk, Joe Henderson scored eight (5 fouls), Todd Martineau contributed two, and Matt Sekera had one.
The second match, down at the Calgary Club, saw Palmer Ranch, in their first game of the tournament face Broward Yachts. This one was never in doubt and Broward sailed to an easy 11 – 4 triumph.
For the winners, Tommy Biddle scored six times (2 fouls, both 4’s), Cali Garcia-Velez had three, and Yvette Biddle provided a pair.
Pedro Orrellana had three (1 foul) for Palmer and Kyle Fargey, filling in for Cam Bailey, nailed one. Bailey, who broke a collar bone four weeks earlier, started but found the going difficult and defered to Fargey after the second.
Play continues in the Roenisch Memorial on Sunday with two games. Game one will see Broward play Cymric Glen and the second places Millarville against Palmer. With both the Yachtsmen and the Mannix ‘s at 2 -0, these contests will simply be warm-ups to a final between the currently undefeated foursomes.
