Oak Brook, IL…As August approaches, the polo competition is heating up at the Oak Brook Polo Club. Teams will compete for the USPA Butler Handicap on Sunday, August 6, at 1 and 3 p.m.
The USPA Butler Handicap is a national tournament, which was started at the Oak Brook Polo Club in the 1950s, during the years Oak Brook hosted the U.S. Open of polo. Rated at 16-goals, the tournament is one of the highest-rated tournaments currently taking place in the country. The tournament is coming back to Oak Brook this summer, after 17 years of it being played on the East Coast.
For eight decades, Oak Brook has been considered the mecca of polo in the Midwest. Since the original Oak Brook Polo club was established by Oak Brook’s founder, Paul Butler, in 1922, polo has continued to draw top international players to the west suburban village.
Matches are played at 1 and 3 p.m. every Sunday through September 10. Tickets are available at the gate and are $10 adults; $5 senior citizens. Children 12 and under and parking are free.
The Oak Brook Polo Grounds are located within the beautiful country setting of the 270-acre Oak Brook Sports Core. Load up the family, pack a picnic and lawn chair and spend an action-packed afternoon in Oak Brook! Food (from a sizzling grill) and beverages are available for purchase; dress is casual; and everyone is welcome.
