The first game was for top position in the July 6 Goal. The Saturday league started out with the hopes of a nice friendly league. Well…roll out the scoreboard, buy some silver, and call it a finals and you can throw the word friendly right out the window. These two talented teams turned up all four burners and gave it their all.
6-5 is the lucky number of the day as that is the score that decided both our finals today !!

Fuad Malik may be able to fix your smile with his artistic dentistry, but a set of trophies is all we need, to get an ear to ear grin on his face. These two teams were tied 3-3 at half and then 5-5 at the end of regulation. Both squads had over-time possibilities in the 5th, but it was Fabrizzio Bianchi who wore the biggest smile of the day with his sudden-death goal to give MS the win. Maxi Menini was high score with 4 goals, Ezequiel Zubiaurre was a notch back with three scores. How appropriate for our Millbrook Polo Founder, Eric Rosenfeld to be helping with umpire duties for the Millbrook Cup.

July Briarcliff Cup
Smithfield Farm 6 Hawk Hill 5

Chukkers Hdcp 1 2 3 4 Totals

Smithfield 2 1 2 1 6

Hawk Hill 1 0 0 2 2 5

The Briarcliff Cup was a re-match between Smithfield and Hawk Hill. 8 goal comrades and 6 goal opponents. Their meeting in June was a score less sudden-death and a shoot-out that Hawk Hill beat out Smithfield. This round, Julio, John, Adam, and Jake all found the uprights through the 4 chukkers as did Tracey, Philip, Ernie, and Raul for Hawk Hill. Smithfield took the first half 3-1, but Hawk Hill rebounded and took the second half 4-3. So Smithfield held onto the win with the modest cushion they enjoyed at half. Julio and Adam had two apiece for Smithfield, while John and Jake each contributed one. Jake’s goal was after an incredible ride-off and steal by John, who then fed it up to Jake who found goal with a very difficult angle. Hawk Hill did start with a handicap goal, but they were not able to score from the field until the second half. These two teams played each other with the intent of July 6 goal..well done!! Congrats to John, who was able to win his silver, galloping alongside his two sons.
