2007 USPA Eddie Moore Champions: Matias Bullrich, Juan Martin Obregon, Michel Dorignac, and Raul Columbres

Polo Do def. Longfield Farm 13- 9

With a couple of rain storms on Friday night and in the early Saturday hours, the match was questionable at best. But with a break in storms, a bit of sun, and a creative change in field layout, the show did go on, and it was a good one at that. If you witnessed the first half, Longfield showed control of the match as they won the first three consecutive chukkers and found themselves up at half by a score of 6-4. However, whatever was said in the half-time talk under Polo Do’s tent seemed to help the team find their focus, as they re-mounted and dominated the final three chukkers, outscoring Duke Buchan’s foursome 9-3.
This match-up was a real spectator thriller with hard fought scrimmages and full throttle runs to goal. We were treated to what the game of polo is supposed to look like. Polo Do’s younger players, Juan Martin Obregon and Raul Columbre were a bit erratic, but when they were hot, boy were they hot. Polo Do’s Maestro, Michel Dorignac was his usual steady hand with seven tallies and Gringo Columbres played a strong supporting role with 4 scores, Juan Martin and Matias each contributed one for PD.

Michel shared high scoring honors with Longfield’s Carlucho Arellano, who was named the game’s MVP by unanimous decision (5 judges). Carlos was a real pleasure to watch with his steady, yet heady style of play. Carlos had plenty of support from teammates Stevie Orthwein and Juan Olivera. Longfield did not go down for lack of hustle. They gave their all in an impressive display of teamwork. This day just did not belong to them, it was a day that belonged to Polo Do.

Best Playing Pony was not an easy decision, and our very experienced panel of three judges struggled with the liver chestnut of Carlucho’s and Michel’s Chestnut in the sixth. This horse race by a nose, went to Carlucho’s Button, one impressive mare. Congratulations to both of these teams, thanks for allowing us to watch !
