It was a double header at Saratoga Polo on Sunday as the Regional United States Polo Association Presidents Cup Tournament continued, with Tackeria defeating Bloomfield in the early match 14-9 and Estrella edging out Buckleigh Farm with a score of 9-8. Both teams won matches in President’s Cup action on Friday.
In the early match, Tackeria coasted on a large early lead to take their second straight. Once again Todd Offen led his team offensively with 6 goals, but Marcelo Castro (who largely plays a defensive role at the Number 4 position) came alive with 5. Rob Stenzel also had 3 for victors of the early match.
Bloomfield fought back valiantly in the middle chukkers but couldn’t quite close the gap. Will Orthwein led his team with 4 goals and Tab Orthwein and Omar Sosa had two apiece to keep it close.
The late match was the second close one for Estrella in a row, with Buckleigh Farm matching them every step of the way. Every chukker save the first and last ended in a tie and the final goal (Ricky Bostwick’s 4th) came in the last minute of regulation. Botwick led Estrella with 4 on the day. He got offensive support from Queco Dupont with 3 and George Hearst with 2.
Jube Baez led Buckleigh Farm with 4 markers. Luis Galvan had 3 and Peter Bibeau had 1 for the runners up of the late match.
The final match of the round robin portion of the USPA President’s Cup tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, August 1st at 5:30pm with Bloomfield slated to take on Buckleigh Farm.
