10-Goal Finals America’s Cup – Ten goal action resumes at the San Diego Polo Club with The America’s Cup.

Five teams entered the tournament and after early round action Gypsy/OC and
Aspen Oaks had a leg up on the competition, but on the final day of league
play Aspen Oaks defeated Gypsy/OC opening the door for Ohana. Ohana would
have to defeat Casa Sombre by four goals to be assured a spot in the finals,
with time running out Ohana’s Danny Juarez converted a penalty four to finish
off a 13-10 victory. This tied them with Gypsy/OC in win loss record as well
as net goals, but that last goal was the tie breaker on gross goals putting
Ohana in the finals against the undefeated Aspen Oaks. Ohana had lost
previously to Aspen Oaks by one goal in a match they led most of the way
until Santos Arriola took a ball in the eye causing it to swell shut and
send him to the sidelines.

In the finals match Ohana got off to a great start leading 4-2 but Aspen Oaks caught fire and scored the next five goals of the match, finally Danny Juarez scored for Ohana ending their drought but leaving them two goals down at halftime. Ohana scored first to open the second half bringing them back to within one but the teams exchanged goals the rest of the way as Aspen Oaks never lost the lead winning 10-9 over Ohana.

Fernando Pliego and Matias Obregon of Aspen Oaks shared MVP honors,
Obregon scored six goals in the match to go with the eight he scored in the
earlier match of the four goal finals.

4-Goal America’s Cup Finals

Six teams began THE AMERICAS CUP with high hopes but only two would end up
on field one on Sunday July 8 in the finals. Cross bracket play left five of
the six teams in the running all the way to the last day of match play.
Marcus & Millichap was strong as they defeated True Choice/OC to finish
undefeated and head to the finals. San Fernando defeated Adeptus and had to
wait for the results of the last game before they could be assured a spot in
the finals. MonteVerde needed to defeat CNS/Princeps by seven goals to be
assured a spot in the finals. They were ahead by two heading into the last
chukker but scored four unanswered goals to win by six goals leaving them
tied with San Fernando in record and net goals, but MonteVerde held the
advantage in gross goals giving them a rematch in the finals against Marcus
& Millichap who had already beaten them once. The finals match was fast
and well-played between two even teams. The match was tied eight times and
the only two goal lead of the match came in the match’s last chukker as
Marcus & Millichap led 9-7. But MonteVerde could not be stopped as they
scored the next two goals including the one that tied the score at nine with
less than one minute remaining. It looked like certain overtime but Alvaro
Tadeo controlled the ball out of the next throw-in and launched a long pass
downfield to the far right of the goal near the end line where Scott Dlugos
hit an improbable neck shot for the winning goal as time expired giving
Marcus & Millichap a 10-9 victory. Matias Obregon scored eight in a losing
cause for MonteVerde, but MVP honors went to Scott Dlugos for his three
goals including the game winner.
