Genes Cleaning overcame an early deficit to win the day at Saratoga Polo on Sunday. They rallied from behind to defeat Buckleigh 9-7 in a tight match.
Buckleigh actually started with a lead before the first ball was thrown in, as they were credited a goal on handicap. While the teams traded goals back and forth in the first two chukkers, by the end of the second Buckleigh was up 5-3.
That wouldn’t last for long as Genes Cleaning tore the game wide open after that, holding Buckleigh scoreless in chukkers three, four and five while adding at least one point to their total in each of those chukkers.
Luis Galvan tried to rally Buckleigh late with two unanswered goals in the sixth and final chukker, but it was too little too late as Genes Cleaning was up by two when the final horn sounded.
Genes Cleaning was led by Jube Baez with 5 tallies and Gene Gass with 2. Peter Williams and Will Orthwein also had a goal apiece for the victors.
Galvan provided almost all off the scoring for Buckleigh with 5 markers. Tony Coppola also had a score for the runners up.
The next match at Saratoga Polo will be on Wednesday, June 21 at 5:30pm. Matches will be played every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday until Labor Day weekend. For more information, call 518-584-8108 or visit saratogapolo.com.
