Buena Vista def. Longfield Farm 10 – 9
Longfield maintained control of Buena Vista for the first 3 chukkers with all four of Longfield’s team members contributing to the score sheet. That team effort carried Longfield into half-time with a 5-3 lead. However, Don Langlois’s squad must have had a great half-time strategy discussion as Buena Vista came out and clearly dominated in chukkers 4 and 5, going into the 6th chukker with a 9-6 lead. The 6th seemed like a mere formality for Buena Vista except for the fact that Longfield’s Carlucho Arellano scored three consecutive goals to tie the match back up at 9 apiece. Then with seconds left in the game, Buena Vista’s Gaston Lisioli was given a chance to be the hero with a 60 yard penalty hit. Gaston took the opportunity and hit a beautiful lofting shot to clinch the game and high scoring honors with 7 goals. Our amateurs all played very well with Duke and Hannah both finding goal, while Mr. P found the uprights twice for Buena Viista.
So the USPA Governor’s Cup comes to a close as we now turn to tomorrow’s 10th Annual Mashomack International Polo Challenge at 1pm.
