It was a typical ugly June gloom day on the Gold coast today but some felt it worse than others in Santa Barbara as the third 12 goal got underway.
To start it all at 11 am It was a new 1/2 team with the Magic Lady Leigh B. and the Doctor Gaston VW and Film Fiance going very good when it was a little Sunny but came to a halt as the Gloom came in and it stayed gloomy after the 3rd as a 5 goal lead disappeared in the fog and Henry Walkers Farmers and Merchants rode on to win there first in a couple of weeks .
Game two was a bit of a surprise as well, I did not see it either but it sounds like the Wetlanders out of Soggy Texas Mokarow Farms and big Kevin just got so excited to really play polo did just that and stopped Twin Palms from there 5 game winning streak and rode off to a big opening win.
In game 3 well it was sunny then foggy and sunny again and so was Klentner Ranch played a so so first a better second and a great 3rd but you have 3 young guns on this team and somewhere along this trail they will learn that the best defense is a better offense and they rode into 1/2 time up by 4 maybe 5 but as we often see it all stops there, as we all learn from watching Gonzalo P and Memo they will come so hard in the 4th and for one reason only break the momentum and if they win the fourth chances are huge they will win the 6th and the game . The KR team was playing amazing attack 100 % young Jake and Jessie were balls to the wall and nobody could stop them Jk and Donovan were in the flow and even got a goal in the last 2 seconds of the third a very positive play for sure but remember its only 1/2 way so change the horses you know they are coming hard get prepared it will be to late to try to rally in the 6 th take it to the bank whoever wins the 4th nearly always wins. I always remember playing the Master Gonzalo Pieres we always thought we were beating him and he always let us get close then closed the door and he always came hard in the 2nd and 4th then they know what they have to do in the 6 th and 90 % of the time they get it done and that was before players had 10 good horses and changed 10 to 15 times we only had 6 and 4 of them were good. That’s another subject a very smart man Named Javier Tanoria has the best idea I have heard of years for the future of POLO stop the 10 horse days and cut it to 6 horses no more it will bring so much back to Polo simple but very big things like it will not be a 2 man show as they have to pass the ball and use the team it will cut cost 40 % as pros will carry 8 horses no more that cuts most expenses in 1/2 and make it possible for Patrons cut cost and play more Polo and be a big part of the team you cannot run on your own for 7 minutes without team play. Other ideas no throw inns after first of a chukkar for sure cuts fouls down hit out of bounds other team hits it in from spot many of these things do several things bring a better pace for crowd and limit a lot of wasted tome for audience who do not understand the game . The Drone is fabulous because people can learn from there viewing and maybe the best chance for it to be a tv sport. Ganzi sees this and is making it happen.
Around the World lots of Polo early Sat. as the Queens cup starts at 7 am Ca. time . Good watching and the Drone there is used a lot. Sunday is opening day in San Diego and will be huge as usual Greenwich will be going very big if no rain and Texas well? No idea if it will be dry enough to cross the river to Polo maybe a new game WATER POLO ON HORSEBACK.
see ya at Polo in California as it maybe foggy but it will not be RAINING.
