Hawk Hill/Smithfield claims title to the June 4 Goal Championship

Don’t tell me that the repetitive chanting of “vamos Tommy” doesn’t work on some occasions…like today for example. Collingwood put in 3 goals in the second half to carve the way for his team to take the 6-4 victory. Tommy’s teammate, Pedro Laura added two and John Klopp got his team on the scoreboard in chuuker #1.

So we finally had our June four goal finals. Mind you, we didn’t have either of our four goal finalists…we just decided if we’re going to be given lemons (which actually took the form of zillions of tiny little rain drops)…..we’ll make lemonade. For just once, we will put aside our normal whining, cry-baby ways. We’ll take that against all odds, change the world, spit in the wind, nothing can stop us now kind of attitude…in fact, we’ll do it…our waaaaaaay.

So Hawk Hill/Smithfield…who used to be Hawk Hill/Buena Vista took on Supersize for the silver. Colley & Colley (along with Martinez & Moore…..Moore? whose that? Sounds like another playing fee to meeeee) anyhow…Supersize jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first chukker and looked to be the dominant force. The two teams finished the first half with the same 3-1 score, as chukker #2 was a scoreless defensive battle. The first half was all Supersize, but the second half was all Hawk Hill/Smithfield as Philip’s entry put in a 5-2 performance in the second half to take bragging rights.

“Cancha Pequena”

We had three teams take the field this week.

Smithfield rode with Craig Callen, Julio, Ian Mactaggart, and proud Dad Mactaggart.

Supersize’s line-up was David Sloan, Felix Martinez, Christie (can’t miss) Colley, and proud dad Bryan.

And Heathcote’s late entry…and I mean “late” entry….well not quite as late as Felix…but late never-the-less, was Tatin, Oakleigh, Hannah(not our Hannah…another Hannah), Elizabeth, and Eric Rosenfeld…wait…aren’t there only four on a team. Heathcote did take the prize for the best dressed team…and can someone buy Felix a white shirt?

We did some “brussel sprout time” and talked about the line of the ball and the associated right of ways….and then just before they started to slip off their horses in a narcoleptic type of trance, we moved to the field for battle for three instructive chukkers. Ian Mactaggart score a couple of beauties and Christie Colley may be taking Bryan’s slot in Supersize’s next showing as she had at least 4 goals and several great carries. David “can’t get enough” Sloan finally hit the “pulled groin” wall. But he does have a pretty cool bar on wheels and more importantly…… he was turning away from his backhanders! In any event, we kept to our motto…we learned a little while having a whole lot of fun.
