Chukkar Farm hosted a Youth Polo Clinic last weekend (August 20,2011) with the local USPC(United States Pony Club). Cohutta Pony Club and The Atlanta Pony Club both attended with about 20 kids joining in. Wilbur O’Farrell with the PTF (Polo Training Foundation) flew in to give us a hand and what a great time we had! The clinic was from 9-4pm and with the warm weather we alternated between indoor activities (watching rules videos and learning to tack for Polo) and outdoor activities (learning the basic shots with foot mallets and engaging in a off the horse scrimmage!). It was such a pleasure to teach such a talented riding group. They were all so skilled and enthusiastic making it great fun for the instructors (Jason Cashin, Elisa Cashin and Cara Tadsen) and kids. The day culminated with all the riders participating in a mounted scrimmage. There were moments when the instructors lost complete sight of the players as the dust swirled around us but we knew where they were from their squeals of delight as the raced toward the goals. Everyone got a great taste of what fun polo can be and several kids have already signed up for additional lessons to learn more!
