American 6-goaler Kris Kampsen will be joining Nacho Figueras and Kareem Rosser on the Black Watch polo team to play in the finals of the 2012 USPA Arena Open Championship Finals at 7pm Saturday night at the Country Farms Polo Club in Medford, New York.
“Kris and I have played well together in the past,” offered Nacho Figueras when asked of the lineup change. I think he’ll give the lineup an added offensive punch.”
Kampsen has registered wins on the grass, on snow and on the beach, scoring 13 of 15 goals in preliminary play leading the Yellow Cab team to the 2012 Miami Beach Polo World Cup championship and an MVP award.
Not a regular in the arena game, Kampsen’s stick skills and hand-eye coordination will serve him well.
“I really haven’t played much arena polo,” Kampsen smiled, “but I think I have a pretty good handle on the game and usually get a little lucky as well.”
Figueras admitted that he hadn’t really considered how the team would lineup but was comfortable that they would be in synch on Saturday for the finals.
Tommy Biddle and his Cornel Weill will play Cedar Croft Farm in a final preliminary match Friday night to determine the second finalist in this year’s highest-rated USPA arena tournament.
