The Calgary Polo Club held their Ladies Heart Cup July 15th – 18th. It was our biggest and most successful ladies tournament with 3 brackets and a total of nine teams and over 50 players. Players came from all over North America and the world – Florida, Washington, California, Argentina, Oregon, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
In the A flight we had Identity Marketing narrowly defeating Swiftbidder 4-3 with Sunny scoring in the final seconds. The other first round match saw Cam Clark Ford defeat Black Diamond. This set the stage for an exciting final in which Sunny Hale and Identity Marketing triumphed over Cam Clark Ford by a score of 4-3. Anne Evamy won MVP and ‘Flash’ owned by Cam Clark and played by Sunny Hale won BPP. The sportsmanship award was won by Jessica Schneider.
In the B flight North Polo won by defeating both Northern Blizzard and Tekkarra. Northern Blizzard was the runner up. MVP was Mary Mac Intyre and BBP was a horse played by Alyson Rooney in the 4th chukker. Jennifer Foster took home the sportsmanship award.
The C flight had many beginners and hunter jumpers from the coaching league. Fun was had by all and MVP was Karen Linkletter, BPP was played by Andrea Douglas and the sportsmanship award went to Dorys Horne.
To accompany the polo we had many fun and exciting social events. The tournament was kicked off in proper Stampede fashion with a Ranch House dinner. Fred Mannix was kind enough to host all of the visiting ladies and it was a fun filled night.
Since it was Stampede we had to truly get in the spirit. The second evening we had VIP treatment at the newest, hottest country bar (Stockyard’s), where all of the girls had a chance to try their mechanical bull riding skills. Well done Cowgirls!!!
Saturday night was a special treat down on the Stampede grounds. Cam Clark hosted the girls to a Bbq at the chuckwagon barns followed by a night of racing. It was amazing to see all of the horses and the wild west racing.
For the final night we had a wrap-up party at the polo club. The asado was hosted by Anne Evamy and others. It was the perfect way to say good bye and brain storm for next year. We could not have done it without our hostess group – Donna Rooney, Shannon Powell and Jenn Foster, who kept us well watered and fed all weekend.
Thanks to all who participated and helped with this wonderful event. A special thanks to Sharon Choney who did a fantastic job helping with the tournament. We are already preparing for bigger and better things next year so start planning your teams and pack your cowboy hats!!!
