Brunei (Bahar Jeffrey, Martin Valent, Pablo MacDonough and Hugo Lewis) scored an 8-5 in over La Indiana (Michael Bickford, Juan Martin Zavaleta, Pite Merlos and Byron Watson) Wednesday to solidify Friday’s semifinals of the 2017 Maserati Silver Cup at the Santa Maria Polo Club.
With La Indiana fielding their fourth or fifth different lineup in the last three games due to injuries, they matched Brunei goal for goal in the opening chukker, 2-2, before falling behind 4-3 at the end of the first half.
Two unanswered Brunei goals in the fourth had La Indiana trailing by three goals, 6-3.
The two teams traded goals in the final two periods of play as Brunei rode off with the win, 8-5.
The semifinals are scheduled to be played on Friday with the 2016 defending championship Brunei facing Lechuza Caracas (Alejo Taranco, Camilo Castagnola, Juan Martín Nero and Will Harper) while Ayala (Iñigo Zobel, Peque Gonzalez, Facundo Pieres and Santiago Laborde) will take on Dos Lunas (James Fewster, Paul S. de Vicuña, Facundo Sola and Martin Podesta) with the respective winners meeting in the Sunday tournament final.
