The Polo Report
By Steve Crowder
Grant’s Farm, the Andy Busch machine, was on the move today. The Carpets were being plowed fast. They rolled out to a 1 and 0 at 17 seconds from a hard-working and very tough Jared Sheldon and continued to make the right move. A WPC Player of the Month, Paul Pieres 2 (I am tired of calling him Polito as it sounds like I am not sure), but a bit silly he is a man who plays very good polo and he is the Son of Paul Pieres a very good player in his day.
Anyway they continued the assault on Mansour for an 8 to 4 lead at 1/2 time. They came out smoking in the 4th and should have been 3 to 0 in that chukkar, but the Refs. saw a different play than anyone else as their are videos and there were two of the most unusual calls made ever. What was worse than anything else is that they were in position, so maybe I am not up-to-speed but would have to have an interpretation to understand these calls. Mansour did not win that chukkar, but it should have been 3 to 0 instead of 3 to 2 .
Paul and Jeff continued to dominate the play and just kept on rolling. Jared just kept on running and Andy closed the back door with a solid smash every time. They thought they were going somewhere. The chukkar scores make this easy to comprehend as it was 3 to 0, 7 to 2 , 8 to 4, 11 to 6, 12 to 7 ad 14 to 8 in the finish and two gifts from the stripes in the 4th.
It was a very good game and moved well under very cool weather and cloudy skies. This result keeps Grant’s farm in the running against Lucchese, who proved they are the best @ the moment with a sound beating of Farmers and Merchants, who played a very good game. The Walkers … Dan and Henry, played brilliantly in the late game, but were against the best and favorites … Lucchese. Lucchese’s has the # 1 man in polo on their team, Adolfo Cambiaso. AC just did what he does and buried them when needed and ran out to a big score to put them at 1 and 0 in the early stages of this PCO.
