Thank you to all of the participants of the Annual Memorial Tournament hosted by San Diego Polo Club. The day began with an exciting show down between: Myles Schnitman, Juan Curbelo and the Rockin Rhoda against Matias Obregon, fast Molly and the streaking Susan Cooley. Juan and team could not even come close to the super power of Cooley and Company who won hands down.
In our second game of the day which was a fast paced round robin we had OC polo with Heather Schubert, team mates Julie, Yvonne Sorour and the wild cowboy Jim against San Diego Polo with Jessica Bailey, Barbara Benson, Carson Cubiac, hard riding Kim and Vince Gumina. Against the well disciplined girls from Poway: Julie Emery, Savanna Rodderick and Daniel Kammann. San Diego Polo was shut out even with Barbara Benson and Vince Gumina putting them on the board. OC Polo narrowly won over the hard hitting young up and comers from Poway.
A real upset happened in the third game of the day as Lakeside: Spike Speltz, Jeff Nash and Ed Lombardi were pounded by Poway 2: Nancy Kirschauffer, Heather Shcubert, Susan Harris and Steven Paulson. The real stars of this game were Steven Paulson and of course Susan’s white Arab! Spike Speltz was almost able to take them all on with some fancy stick work.
Our fourth game of the day was a real blowout won by Rancho Valencia: Christopher Collins, Olivia and Scott Lancaster beating OC POLO: Denny Geiler, Dave Schubert and Eric Monk. Congratulations to Denny Geiler on his first tournament after double hip replacements! OC POLO is just getting warmed up and wants a rematch in a few more weeks where the tables will turn and the young guns will be beat!
Our final match of the day was another round robin. Los Batatas: Robin Pacius, Guapo Gustavo and Juan Curbello challenging, Club Polo: Tony YaiYeih, Ashton Wolf and Alvaro Tadeo. Against Los Juevones: Rick Pacius, Gerardo and Matias Obregon. While everyone played a hard and fantastic game the winners were CLUB POLO.
Many thanks to all of the folks that helped announce, flag, time, drag, umpire, pros that played to help polo, etc. and to all of the visiting teams and players for making the effort to come to San Diego Polo Club. See you on the 4th of July!
