With great playing by Marcelo Rodríguez Abbiatti the national representative from Canada won the only ticket for the North, Central America and the Caribean Zone, after defeating the US Representative by 7 goals to 4.

With the presence of frenchmen Patrick Gerrand Hermes, president of the International Polo Federation, Canada and the United States gave a great performance for all the crowd that gathered to witness the game in Costa Careyes in the Mexican Pacific. With an oustanding polo playing by the recently naturalize Canadian Rodríguez Abbiatti the North American team proved that quality and perseverence turned to be a great formula for the qualification to the World Championship.

The game showed emotions from minute one through the last second, however, the Canadian team always showed superiority and only once the Canadian Team was reached by the Americans when Chris Nevins tied it at two goals each.

Regardless of all modifications that the U.S. team tried to do, with great efforts from Brandon Phillips and Cody Offen at the end Canada showed to be a better team. In the forth chukker, Rodriguez Abbiatti earned the MVP award by scoring three goals and making the big difference that earned his team the final pass to the World Cup.

Note: The Dominican Republic team is a Ghost Team standing in for the Playoff. The Caribbean missing team alleged major force motives. The Dominican quartet was being awaited since last Thursday, but early in that morning the Organizing Committee got the news about the team not coming to play the quadrangular which will grant passes to the international appointment for next year.

Ricardo Mihanovich, ambassador of the International Polo Federation and director of the competition, noted the issue, even when he did not inform of the punishments it may carry for the Dominican Polo.

Despite that incident, everything is set up for the dispute, which will start this Sunday. The pass will be disputed between the American, Guatemalan and Canadian teams. The Organization Committee announced that a Mexican team will take the place of the Dominican team at the draw, with the intention of avoiding problems with the game programming – therefore, official quartets will keep their playing rhythm. The name of the players of the substitute team is different every day: Roberto Gonzalez Gracida, Georgio Brignione, Rogelio Igartua, Miguel Go’mez de Parada, Raul Ramirez, Luis “Tato” Olazabal, Guillermo “Billy” Steta.
