Marymount College from Santa Barbara won the collegiate and Wiley Uretz was chosen the male player of the year. Coach John has been producing winners for a long time.
The Interscholastic finals were played at Empire Polo Club. Eldorado put up a valiant effort but lost in the finals.
USPA Handicaps:
Dan Walker, USPA national handicap chairman, reported on the current system and took questions and gave answers.
USPA Website:
The website is being remodeled by Kim Snider of Polo Skilz fame. It will have many more connections for information. In addition, it will develop a great deal of information that can be used in marketing USPA membership.
Umpire LLC:
Britt Baker, the chairman of Umpire LLC, made a presentation of the USPA umpire reimbursement program and took questions and answers.
USPA Dues:
You will soon be able to pay your dues through the website with a credit card. You can then elect to have an automatic debit each year to make things easier. In addition, the renewals will revert to an annual renewal so that instead of renewing every January you will renew on your anniversary date.
USPA Lifetime Membership:
The organization is thinking of developing a lifetime membership for $2,500.
Club Membership:
There was discussion about having categories of clubs and attributing voting power and dues amount based on the size of the club. The matter is still being reviewed by the USPA committee.
Spring Meeting Date:
For the last two years or maybe more, the Governor’s Cup Finals and last week end of the desert season have occurred on Easter Sunday. This creates a calendar conflict for many people. We discussed having it the week end before or the preceding Saturday. It is still open to discussion. Let me know what you think.
The meeting was adjourned.
Denny Geiler, Governor
Having the governor’s cup the week before just shortens an already shortened season. Making it a week later runs into a conflict with Goldenvoice setting up for the concerts. I foresee Empire Polo having all the polo soon and a much shorter season. No more November polo.
