TODAY WAS The FINAL of the 113th ARGENTINE POLO OPEN

La Dolfina arrived to this final after winning the zone A. They won all the matches against Hurlingham by 25- 11 in the first date, Indios Chapaleufú II by 15 – 14 in the second and 16-14 versus El Paraiso in the last date a sort of semifinal.

In the other zone, La Aguada began losing the match against Chapa I by 13 – 12 in the overtime chukker, but then, winning versus Ellerstina by 18-17 and Coronel Suarez 19- 9 in the last date, got their pass to the final.

Chronicle of the match

On this sunny day, the final of the 113th Argentine Polo Open began at 17 with a full stadium in Palermo.

La Aguada began with a stronger attack and at the end of the first chukker, La Aguada was winning by 2 – 1. During the second chukker, Cambiaso, by a penalty goal tied the match at 2 at the third minute, but La Aguada dominated the ball and stretched their advantage to 4-2. Adolfo Cambiaso, by a penalty goal made the 3rd goal for La Dolfina and the ckukker ended 4-3.

At the beginning of the fourth chukker, again by a penalty goal, Cambiaso tied the match, but Nacho Novillo Astrada put the score to 5-4 for La Aguada. Two minutes later, Cambiaso by a penalty made the 5th. And again, La Aguada made up the difference, but La Dolfina tied and at the half time, the teams were tied at 6.

In the fifith chukker, La Aguada connected their attack zone with Javier and Eduardo Novillo Astrada and again they were up on the score by two and at the end if this chukker they were winning with a score of 6-8.

But at the beginning of the sixth chukker, Adolfo Cambiaso with two goals, the first one by a penalty, and the second one with a very nice run tied the match again at 8-8. One minute later, Lucas Monteverde put goal number 9 on the board for La Dolfina with a nice neck shot. La Dolfina continued seeking the triumph and Cambiaso again scored and put the score to 10-8 for his team.
At the 3.25 minute, Cambiaso could make the difference but his penalty shot was outside of the posts.

When the sixth chukker was ending, Miguel Novillo Astrada scored reducing the lead to one. The match was 10-9 for La Dolfina.

At the 44 seconds of the seventh chukker, again the number 3 of La Aguada, Miguel Novillo Astrada scored and tied the match at 10-10. But by a penalty goal, Adolfo Cambiaso made his 44th goal of this Open and the score was now 11-10 for La Dolfina.

But the tie arrived when Mariano Aguerre fouled and Javier Novillo Astrada scored with a penalty.

Again Cambiaso with a very nice long shot made the difference for La Dolfina and scored making the score 12-11. A few seconds later, Eduardo Novillo Astrada tied the match and the chukker ended with the score 12 – 12.

The last chukker was exciting, La Aguada scored first with a 60 yard goal scored by the back, Nacho Novillo Astrada, but Cambiaso made a very nice play and Lolo Castagnola scored the 13th goal and tied the game.

In the overtime chukker, La Dolfina had one chance like La Aguada, but at the third minute, the horse ridden by Adolfo Cambiaso (Aiken Cura) broke his right leg and the match was stopped.

When the extra chukker continued Cambiaso made a nice play but the referees marked called a foul. Then La Aguada attacked, but the ball passed outside of the right post on a shot by Eduardo Novillo Astrada.

With a board throw in the match continued and Lolo Castagnola scored the golden goal with a neck shot!! 14 – 13 and La Dolfina repeated the 2005 Championship in 2006. La Dolfina is the New Palermo´s Open CHAMPION!!!

In the first match of the day, La Aguada won against Coronel Suarez by 19-9.

With a lot of people seeing the match, the Novillo Astrada´s brothers dominated the ball in all chukkas and attacked in the first half of the match, when took the difference.
In the second half, La Aguada could regulate the game and with the Javier Novillo Astrada´s attacks could define the match.

With this result, La Aguada must wait for the results of the match of Chapa I and Ellerstina to know if they will make the finals of the ArgentineelOpen.

If Chapa I wins the match, they will pass to the final. If Ellerstina wins it by one goal and the result is over 13-12, Ellerstina will pass to the final. But, if Ellerstina wins the match by one goal and the result is less than 14-13, La Aguada will occupy a place in the final… so La Aguada must wait.

But the Polo continued in Palermo and at 16.30 began the last match of the qualifing zone and Ellerstina beat Chapa I by 12 – 11

In a very open and fast match, Chapa I began better than Ellerstina because could made the first difference with the Bautista Heguy´s goals and at the end of the first four chukkas, was winning the match by 6-4.

In the first half Chapa I attacked more than Ellerstina, but the effect wasn´t better, because in 12 shots, they could score 6 goals.

At the fourth minute of the fifth chukker, Facundo Pieres made the sixth goal for Ellerstina and tied the match at six with a 30 yard penalty. In the last minute of the fifth chukker, again Facundo Pieres took put the score: Ellerstina 7 – Chapa I 6.

At this moment, Ellerstina began to attack with their better horses and at the end of the seventh chukker, Ellerstina was winning 11-7.

In the last chukker, Bautista Heguy ran on his horse from the middle of the field and scored the 10th goal for Chapa I and this goal was the 500th goal of Bautista in Palermo, who began to play it in 1988.

When the clock at 6.20 minute, Bautista Heguy scored again and tied the match at 11.

With this result the match ended and gave way to an extra chukker. At this moment the players knew that if Chapa I made the goal, Ellerstina would pass to the final, but if Ellerstina made the goal, La Aguada would be in the final.

Finally, Matias Mac Donough scored and Ellerstina won the match, so LA AGUADA IS THE SECOND OPEN FINALIST!

Dec. 2nd ’06: Today in Palermo they played the fifth date of the Argentine Polo Open.
In the first match of the day, Indios Chapaleufú ended their participation in the tournament winning the match against Hurlingham by 16 – 10. But the important match of the day was the determination of the Zona A. In a sort of semi final, because the winner will get into the final of the Open.

La Dolfina beat El Paraíso 16 – 14. The match was tight in the first five chukkers, but in the sixth chukker, the Hurlingham Champion, La Dolfina dominated the ball and made the difference using the effectiveness of Adolfo Cambiaso.

El Paraíso, who played with the green alternative jersey, couldn’t tie the match again and at the end of the seventh chukker, La Dolfina was winning 15 – 10 and in the last one, only tried to maintain the difference.

At 6.30 minutes of the last chukker, Sebastián Merlos was excluded from the match with a red card.

La Dolfina has secured their place in the Final that will be played next Saturday against the better team of the zone B that tomorrow’s match will define.

Sunday, Nov. 26th, in the first match of the 4th date of the Argentine Polo Open,

Chapa I beat Coronel Suarez by 17 – 8.

Chapa I, who played with the alternative white jersey, dominated the ball throughout the match and with Bautista Heguy´s attacks they made the difference.

At the end of 4th chukker, Chapa I was winning 7 – 1. In the second half Coronel Suarez could not organize their game and Chapa I won easily in the first match of the second date of the Zone B.

In the second game of the day, La Aguada won against Ellerstina 18 – 17.

The Novillo Astrada´s team began with more effectivity than Ellerstina and at the middle of the second chukker they were winning 5 – 2 with four goals of the back of La Aguada Ignacio Novillo Astrada. A minute later when the chukker ended, Ellerstina tied the match 5 – 5.

During the third chukker it began to rain, the match continued and at the end of the chukker, La Aguada was winning 7 – 6.

At the end of the 6th chukker, the rains over and La Aguada was winning the match 13 – 11 and the teams began the last chukker with the score 15 – 14 for La Aguada.

In the last chukker, when the clock had 13 seconds left, Facundo Pieres scored for Ellerstina and tied the match at 15. Eduardo Novillo Astrada scored his second goal of the match and made the difference. Facundo Pieres again tied the match at 16 by a penalty placed at 40 yards and he scored another goal. Eduardo Novillo Astrada who scored the 17-16 (his third goal) at the sixth minute of the last chukker.

Befote the bell rang, Facundo Pieres scored his goal number 26 of the Open and tied again the match at 17 and the match went into overtime.

Eduardo Novillo Astrada’s shot rebounded off the post, then at 2:20 Matias Mac Donough could have determined the match, but the back player of La Aguada took the ball.

Ignacio Novillo Astrada scored 18 – 17 and La Aguada continues with life in the most important polo Tournament of the World. It was an exciting end to a great game.

The tournament will continue next weekend on Saturday, the finalist teams will appear.

This Saturday, the winner of La Dolfina vs. El Paraíso will be in the final.

On Sunday, the two matches of zone B must be played because the result of both with influence and determine the other finalist. So Coronel Suarez vs. La Aguada and Ellerstina vs. Chapa I will be the matches.

On Saturday, Nov. 25th , in the first match of the day, El Paraíso won their match against Hurlingham by 16 – 10. The Merlo´s team dominated the ball even the match. Next Saturday, the orange team ll must play versus La Dolfina.

At the second match, La Dolfina began better than Indios Chapaleufu II, but the black team tied it up in the 7 chukker and Adolfo Cambiaso, by a 40 yard penalty made the difference 14-13. Then on a throw in, again the number one of La Dolfina Cambiaso, got the ball and with a nice run, put another one in to make the score 15 – 13. Near the end of the chukker, Eduardo Heguy scored the last goal of the match. Adolfo Cambiaso was the maxium scorer of La Dolfina with 9 goals. Eduardo Heguy was the high scorer on Indios Chapaleufú II with 10 goals.

At the end of the match, Milo Fernandez Araujo took a lap round the field on his horse because he decided to retire from high handicap Polo then of this Open. And Chapa II has no chance to get in finals. The last match of Milo will be the next Saturday against Hurlingham.

Tomorrow at 2 PM Chapa I will play against Coronel Suárez and La Aguada must win against Ellerstina if they want to continue with opportunities in the most important polo Open of the World.

One minute later, Bautista Heguy by a 40 yard penalty put the score 12 – 11, but only in seconds Nacho Novillo Astrada socred the 12th goal for La Aguada. The 113th Argentine (Palermo) Open has started today in Palermo. On the first day of the Argentine Open starting with the Zone A, La Dolfina, playing on field 2, beat with ease Hurlingham by 25 – 11.

In the second match of the group, in the match that has begun at 16.30, Indios Chapaleufú II played El Paraíso and the team of the Merlos´s brothers won on the first day of the highest goal polo competition if the World by 24 – 17.

In this match, Agustin Merlos scored 18 goals and become in the new high-scorer record holder making it the second time today the record was broken.

La Dolfina won 25 to 11 versus Hurlingham. Adolfo Cambiaso scored 17 goals, which is the THE NEW RECORD!

The 113th Argentine (Palermo) Open has started today in Palermo. On the first day of the Argentine Open starting with the Zone A, La Dolfina, playing on field 2, beat with ease Hurlingham by 25 – 11.

La Dolfina dominated the match easily with the effectiveness of the number one of the team, Adolfo Cambiaso. He made it happen and broke his own high-scoring record in the process. Adolfo is Palermo’s High-Scorer Record Holder because he scored 17 goals today. The previous record was held the same player, Adolfo Cambiaso, with 16 goals made during the Open of 1994 and 1998, but today he broke his own record.
