The Detroit Polo Club announces a new Winter Polo Academy under the auspices of the USPA’s PDI program to train prospective new players in Michigan. The DPC has leased a new arena for the winter months and will be conducting basic polo riding, hitting and strategy lessons and arena polo. The fledgling University of Michigan Polo Team will also be sharing horses and the arena with DPC beginners and experienced players. Club members including DPC founder, Merle Jenkins, are contributing horses and experience. Peter Cummings will be the lead instructor and be assisted by long time player Jerry Hutcheson. Another highlight soon to occur in Michigan is the 1st Annual Arena Polo Match between the Michigan State University Polo Team (MSU) and the University of Michigan Polo Team (U -M). The inaugural match will be held in East Lansing at the new MSU Livestock Pavilion arena and will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2007. It should be a great battle and great fun!!
