The Houston Polo Club proudly announces its 12th Annual Ladies Tournament, to be held November 8th through 12th, in Houston, Texas. This is also HPC’s second year as a Qualifier Event for the Women’s Championship Tournament (WCT) Series.
The tournament will host two brackets at the 3-goal and 1-goal level, with 10 teams competing in total. The WCT Qualifier League will include six teams at the 3-goal level led by top U.S. women players, including Sunny Hale, Kristy Waters Outhier, and Caroline Anier. International pros competing in this league include Sheri-Lyn Hensman of Zimbabwe, Lesley Masterton Fong-Yee of Jamaica, and Sarah Van Wyck of South Africa. Sunny Hale, who captained last year’s winning team, will also host a player’s clinic as part of the tournament.
All women playing the WCT Qualifier League will be eligible to play in the WCT Finals, to be held in April 2007 at Outback Polo Club in Wellington, Florida. Last Year’s WCT Finals, a 4-6 goal 6-chukker tournament played at the peak of the high goal season in Florida, launched a new era for competitive women’s polo in the United States. Other Qualifier tournaments for the 2007 Finals include Aiken, Goose Creek, and Sarasota.
HPC’s tradition of strong corporate support for women’s polo continues this year, with sponsors including La Martina, ZSweet, Catena USA, Western Airways, Lockton, Sirius Solutions, Events of Houston, L.A. Waters Quarter Horses, and Tootsies. La Martina and Catena USA were also major sponsors at the 2006 WCT Finals, and Catena USA has recently donated a perpetual trophy for the Finals that will be housed in the USPA Hall of Fame.
