Indio, CA (March 2, 2009) – In a game that was close the entire distance, it seemed fitting that Dan Horn’s Palm Desert group would need an overtime chukker to defeat Geoff Palmer and his Antelope foursome by a score of 9 – 8 on Sunday and in doing so, become the Eldorado Polo Club’s 12 goal winner for February.
Throughout, both teams had chances to extend leads and were unable to do so. An advantage of one at the half for the Horn/Walker combination became two early in the fourth but the prong-horns soon led by one, only to lose that lead and start the fifth tied at six.
The next two periods saw each team score once in each and sudden death ensued.
An outstanding effort out of the initial line-up by Santiago Trotz for Palm Desert, allowed him to run 140 yards before being stopped by Antelope’s Hugo Barabucci. In the meantime, Matthew Walker was able to get open and score the winner from 15 yards out, ending the overtime in less than 20 seconds.
For the champions, both Danny and Matthew Walker (2 fouls-1#4) scored four times and Trotz once.
Barrabucci had seven (1 foul – #4) for Antelope and Caroline Anier, after a horrific fall in the first chukker, had one for Antelope in the sixth.
