Ayala (Inigo Zobel, Guillermo Willington, Pablo MacDonough and Juan Jauretche) dashed the perfect season hopes of the UAE team (HH Sheikha Maitha Al Maktoum, Jack Richardson, Lucas Monteverde and Pablo MacDonough) as they scored an 18-17 win over the previously undefeated time in the opening match of the day in the high-goal Silver Cup competition at the Santa Maria Polo Club at Sotogrande, Spain Sunday afternoon. The win dropped UAE’s record to 2-1 while elevating the Ayala record to 2-1.
HALCYON GALLERY 11, DOS LUNAS 10
Halcyon Gallery (Matias Bernal, Jota Chavanne, Guillermo Terrera and Max Routledge) held on for an 11-10 win over Dos Lunas (A Sainz de Vicuna, Jason Warren, Diego Cavanagh and Tomas Garcia Del Rio) to finish preliminary play in Silver Cup competition with a perfect 3-0 record, joining Scapa (3-0) by claiming the second semifinal berth of the tournament.
ELLERSTON 11, EL ROSARIO 10
Ellerston (Johnny Williams, Ali Patterson, Gonzalo Pieres and Facundo Pieres) didn’t look like a world-beater Sunday afternoon in spite of 10-goalers Gonzalo and Facundo Pieres, but they were good enough to beat El Rosario (Alejandro Penafiel, Valerio Zubiaurre, Milo Fernandez and Salvador Ulloa) 11-10, and remain alive in the lottery for the final two spots in the Silver Cup semifinals.
Ending the campaign with a 2-1 record, Ellerston will join Ayala, UAE and Dubai (all with similar 2-1 records) in a penalty shootout on Monday morning at 11AM to decide which two teams will go on to lay in the tournament semifinals.
