The tournament kicked off with two exciting wins for the Piaget-sponsored polo teams. On Thursday, May 26th Piaget Black opened the single-elimination competition with an 8-4 win over Pony Express. Highlights include two goals by special friend of Piaget, Marc Ganzi. In the second bracket of the day, Piaget White, led by team captain Melissa Ganzi, was paired against Grand Champions. It was an intense and heated match between the two teams, resulting in a 7-7 tie at the end of the 5th chukker. Piaget’s polo ambassador, Nic Roldan, scored the winning goal in the final minutes for an 8-7 lead. The 8-goaler scored a total of 4 goals during the match.
Both Piaget Black and Piaget White were defeated in the semi-finals to Santa Clara (11-8 win over Piaget Black) and the Hawks (10-6 over Piaget White). However, Piaget Black was triumphant over Piaget White (7-3) at the consolation final, on Sunday, May 29th.
The final of The Memorial by Piaget, took place Monday morning at the Grand Champions Polo Club between Santa Clara and the Hawks. Local polo player, Tommy Biddle, led his team, Santa Clara, to victory scoring nine goals, resulting in a 10-8 win over the Hawks. However, it was Julian Mannix from the Hawks who scored four times for his team and who was named MVP of the tournament. Marc Ganzi presented Mannix with a Piaget Polo FortyFive in honor of his effort.
Each player of the winning team received a Piaget Polo FortyFive clock, and the Hawks were presented with Piaget/Prisa bags. Piaget has been a long time supporter of the sport of polo, particularly in Palm Beach. In addition to The Memorial by Piaget tournament, Piaget recently hosted the USPA Piaget Gold Cup at the International Polo Club in Wellington, FL for the fourth consecutive season.
