On a cloudy day in Del Mar it was a day of two very good polo games and they were in all fairness mounted warfare. Marcus + Millichap took on a fierce effort by Prentis and survived. A daring effort by Abby Riggs and Billy Boy Hoyman turned out to be the back breaker as M and M held out for a fierce battle with Prentis and head to the finals come Sunday afternoon. It was fortunate that we were all there as the super band called TRAFFIC JAM provided a unbelievable gig on Saturday night. It was an awesome party. It was only the second of a wild weekend in the place where the surf meets the turf at San Diego Polo Club.
In the other semis Wild Bill Freeman showed he came to town to battle and they did. In a cliffhanger it was undefeated OHANA coming out on top as Kelly’s Pink Panthers never quit. The hero of the day was the goat who racked up about 6 fouls and in the last 70 seconds made amens in a big way. Santos came in for a screaming goal with a big charge down the sideline and then with 4 seconds to go finished it with a big neck shot and sent Wild Bill and Corleone back to the den without a cigar. It was a very big game with lead change by the minute and a very big effort by both teams. There was a leak in penalty shots by Corleone it was their undoing as they needed the God Father to handle the aim on goa. So on Sunday after the Saturday night party of airplanes and wine it will be two big ones as Billy Boy Hoyman and the M + M’s take on Ohana and the undefeated Pink Panthers in a big one at 1:00 pm. It should be a barn burner and its just a warm up as the 100th playing of the Spreckels Cup high goal gets underway at 3 pm . We will see the smoking guns of Easy Rider (Chris Maloney and Tritech) heading to an undefeated tournament, but thats if they can stop Sexy Lady Lisa Bosstick and her band of delinquents from stoping the mighty charge of TriTech. So be there. Oh yes there is a party on Sunday night, so come on down. You Ladies get your name on the list by sundown Sunday if you want to play in the Ladies Tournament next weekend. Or you will be serving at the party next Friday night. So like they say you cannot control the sunrise and you cannot control the rain so why worry about what you cannot control.
