American Polo Player Polito Pieres Attains USPA 10-Goal Handicap
Pieres joins six other active polo players recognized by the USPA with the sport’s highest rating; American Stuart “Sugar” Erskine and Canadian Freddie Mannix attain 7-goal handicaps.
The United States Polo Association® (USPA) today announced that American polo player Polito Pieres has attained a 10-goal handicap, the sport’s highest rating. He is one of seven active 10-goal players recognized by the USPA and the only American. The others are Adolfo Cambiaso, Guillermo “Sapo” Caset, Pablo MacDonough, Juan Martin Nero, Facundo Pieres and David “Pelón” Stirling.
Pieres is the first American to be rated at 10-goals since Adam Snow was in 2003. He is the 24th American and 54th overall player in the history of the United States Polo Association to be rated at 10 goals.
28-year old Pieres was born in Connecticut and raised in Argentina. He has played on the winning teams in the British Open, the Deauville Gold Cup in France, the USPA C.V. Whitney Cup and the Piaget Gold Cup during his career. Most recently he played for the US Open runner-up team Orchard Hill.
“The attainment of a 10-handicap rating is extraordinary and there has not been an American player that has captured that outdoor rating since Adam Snow when he was raised to ten goals in 2003,” said Peter Rizzo, CEO of the United States Polo Association. “Polito is the most recent American 10 goaler and joins a very elite group of legendary polo players.
In related news, the USPA announced that American Stuart “Sugar” Erskine and Canadian Freddie Mannix had attained 7-goal handicaps, making them among the highest USPA rated players. The current list of USPA handicaps can be found here: http://uspolo.org/member/
