I am sad to report that Mayor Johnny Grant passed away a couple of days ago.He was 84 and was really all about Hollywood. Johnny was one of the nicest, most caring people I have met in Polo. He was easily a much bigger star than the majority of actors and actresses out of Tinsel Town who have been around polo. Johnny was a humble and a honest person who always promoted Hollywood.
I have heard he was responsible for the big sign that is always seen on TV and in LA. He was also responsible for the Hollywood Walk of Fame where they have stars in the sidewalk for famous and important people of the area. Johnny was often seen at Polo in Santa Barbara, CA and in Indio, CA. He was one of the major reasons the Griffin Park LA Polo was so big for nearly 20 years. These LA Tournament brought so many of today’s Patrons to the game of polo. He was a small man, but a very big person is probably the best way to describe him and he will be a Star we will miss.
Polo in the USA . . . its that time as Florida kicked-off in some places and will be all in this week as IPC comes on board. Eldorado is underway in a way and La Quinta is just around the corner as they begin their tournament play on Jan. 15th.
On the hard-side, Geoff Palmer took the knife today to reorganize his hip. Big Ben Soleimani, the Rugman, is still a foot with out a bionic arm. Mike Hakan is moving and about to play. The Skins Champ and Governor, Pat Nesbitt, is on his way back to town. So there is some action about the polo world in Ca. as well. See ya.
