I have been around Polo for 5 decades and remember a lot of them bu not all names right but back
in the early 80’s . We put on a Lady’s game at Boca Raton John T Oxley thought it would be fun and it was but I made the mistake of being one of the refs, wow did they give us a hard time . It was a Sunday pre game like the 1 o’clock game. good crowd and 8 Ladies all from Gulfstream and Boca Wellington did not exist yet these were some of the Ladies who most are still involved in Polo. Sharon Barry , Gill Johnston Mother of Jillian Johnston now 2 or 3 goals the late Violet Glue Lester Armours manager also Caroline Jones head girl for Rolex’s Mickey Tarnapol , not sure was another Lady from Detroit who was pretty good named Butch , Bill Ylvisackers Wife also named Jill I think if anyone remers others let me know . I do remember Gill J and Sharon B were the big sticks.
Out West the Dame of Womens Polo was SUE SALLY HALE she ws the Lady who made it happen here she even pretended for years to be a man before she was accepted back in the 50’s they say she was tough and competitive and Mother of the best and most important WOMAN IN POLO ((( SUNNY HALE ))) she made Womens Polo what it is today the biggest part of Polo growth she won the US OPEN with Outback the Gannon Machine
was 5 goals in men’s Polo. Traveled the World making Womens Polo grow crazy fast set up Womans polo Ass. and handicap system which has a huge # of players now . She helped Polo everywhere even though she was from California where she got a lot of Ladies involved because she was so good . Sue Sally openened door here for many like Susan Stovall,Julie Roenish, Caroline Anier who was a French lady who got to 4 or 5 goals here and Europe. In England there was another Sunny Hale just a decade or so to early she also got to 5 goals and was so tough her name is Clare Tomilson mother of 2 of the best players in UK for a long time. Clare was double tough and very fast and took no prisoners . I am sure there were many other Ladies before letme know who they were and some will recognize them
