It was a very exciting weekend in Santa Barbara, as we saw our first overtime game of the 8 goal so far.
In the first round of the Presidents Cup, Homewood defeated Gehache/ Beverly Hills Institute 15-9 and Mansour defeated China Beach 12-10. This set up a do or die second round, as the first round winners played off for the coveted 2-0 spot and the first round losers played off to stay alive in the tournament.
In the winner vs winner playoff, the game started out slowly as neither team seemed to be able to convert goals. Benji Soleimani go things turned around for Mansour though at the end of the 3rd, scoring a goal, drawing a penalty 1, and then scoring another goal off the ensuing throwin. Mansour would go on to win 6-5.
On the other side of the bracket, Gehache/ Beverly Hills Institute battled China Beach in an overtime thriller. Gehache BHI jumped out to a big lead, helped by Marcos Llambias scoring 4 unanswered goals in the second chukker. But China Beach saved the best for last and made a big run in the last chukker. China Beach briefly took the lead at 10-9 in the 6th, but Llambias scored again to send the game to OT. Matt Walker was the hero in OT, scoring the winning goal for China Beach.
In the next round, Mansour will play Gehache/ BHI, although Mansour is guaranteed a berth in the finals already. Also on Saturday, Homewood will play China Beach in a virtual semifinal to see who will play Mansour in the final on Sunday, Oct 3rd
